This was my first trip o Tabin and I was disappointed. I had a chalet next to the river and you could watch monkeys on the opposite bank moving... read more in the trees. November is not the time to go as the orchid garden did not have any plants in bloom and other bushes lacked flowers so very few butterflies. This is a good area to view gibbons, but they are very high in the trees. Food choice could have been better and they did not cater for my food intolerances. The chalets were made of wood and very dark inside, despite the numerous lights. The bed was comfortable. You can get into a truck for nighttime exploration and things can be seen, though the trip, balanced on a padded plank of wood is uncomfortable. Rubber boots are provided and there is a boardwalk to take you to your cabin.

February 9, 2023My partner and I arrived to Lahad Datu with no set plans, betting on finding a wildlife trek opportunity on the go. And boy, did we! Dr. Teo went above... read more and beyond to organize a private trip practically overnight, so we could see the wildlife and the people of beautiful Tabin. In the 2-day trip, we boated along river canals to see bats, monkeys, fireflies, crocs, lizards, and much more, trekked among the giant trees, swam, and even had an incredible seafood feast with the local villagers. Definitely one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives, and we hope to return one day for more.
August 4, 2022Amazing experience seeing Orang-Utans, monkeys, hornbills, eagles, slow lories etc. in the wild. Night Safari was stunning-never saw this before. Planting rainforest trees was a very satisfying experience. Teo... read more and his team did the utmost to make this a memorable adventure. Rainforest camp is simple (no electricity nor internet, but solar lamps) but very authentic. Loved the whole trip.
You get all your questions on rain forests and wild life answered! We even got a guided tour through the adjacent palm oil mill.
Be prepared for bumpy mud roads :-). It´s an outstanding experience.

It was a rainy week and the restart of visitors to East Sabah, so all elements were in to make it a very private and interesting experience ! Definitely did not disappoint !
This type of "tour package" is for the more adventurous travelers with a deep appreciation of nature and wildlife as well as interaction with less privilege human beings living on the edge of vast mangroves and the sea.
The boat ride with fireflies in the trees, clear night sky and fluorescent plancton was absolutely awesome !

December 1, 2021My wife and I spent 3 weeks exploring Sabah and Sarawak. We loved our time Sarawak, and in Sabah. We spent time on the Kinabatangan, we thought Danum Valley... read more was seriously special, but Bukit Piton is absolutely out of this world special.
We had done the limited group tours on the Kinabatangan. We stayed on the trails and never went anywhere without a guide in Danum. We loved them both. But the absolute beauty, freedom, guides, friends, and wonder we found in Bukit Piton, coupled with the high density of wild orangutans still makes the hair on my arms stand up. It was truly, truly stunning.
I would FULLY recommend visiting Bukit Piton to anyone who asked.
A few things to keep in mind. The lodging is a homestay and it is basic as basic gets. But the host family is lovely, friendly and truly wonderful. We rented motorbikes and toured ourselves around the area, but the roads are rough. You need a 4x4 or a motorcycle and be comfortable riding it. If it's been raining, the roads can be impassable on a motorbike. There are bugs. It is wild.
Get out there and love it. We sure did!

October 22, 2019With it’s attractive wooden cabins alongside a river, Tabin Wildlife Resort is a very nice place to stay for a while. It was our first accomodation with wifi, though only... read more in the restaurant. But spending time at that open air place was quite nice and there would be free coffee and tea available throughout the day. And everyone that worked there was very friendly! As for the food, there was always enough and several options to choose from. And they even take into account the early starts, by providing toast and fruit for people going on a sunrise walk or drive. The program for our 3 day, 2 night stay was very full, but as the activities were a great mix of walks, (night) drives and even a swim at a waterfall, it didn’t feel rushed. Sometimes the walk would have a challenge, like walking over fallen trees or a steep slope, but our guide Ed was always there to help us. She is also great at spotting wildlife and even managed to find the rare binturong for us.

We are a family of 5 (with three young children) and recently visited Bukit Piton on an overnight tour to see the orang-utans. Having not heard too much about... read more Bukit Piton, and being a secondary forest, we were unsure what to expect, but were extremely surprised and delighted with the tour. Bukit Piton is situated on the edge of the Danum Valley and the forest is an incredible example of how the forest can be rehabilitated. The forest of Bukit Piton was spectacular, with a number of trees planted to attract wildlife, especially the orang-utans. The highlight of our trip included seeing 3 orang-utans in the wild as well as several horn bills, and mouse deer and slow loris on our evening drive. We also participated in tree planting, which was such a great thing for us to do as a family. Our guides were incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the local area and environment, and both we and the kids learnt so much about orang-utans, as well as critical environmental issues surrounding de-forestisation and rehabilitation. The accommodation was simple but very clean and perfect for a night’s rest! I would wholly recommend Bukit Piton for everyone, including people travelling with young families as this was certainly the highlight of our trip to Borneo.

September 9, 2019Overall this tour was the highlight of our Borneo and Sabah experience. We were very lucky that we came across Bukit Piton tour and made the decision to try... read more it. Not only was the seeing of the OrangUtans up close in the wild, it was also the level of service, educational aspect. planting the trees and a lot more! We saw 7 OrangUtans, owls, eagles, hornbills, macaques, elephant and mouse deer. We booked are trip via Bike and Tours agency and from the very first contact, they were communicating very quickly and were very accomodating. They made sure we did not raise our expectations too high, provided us with both positive and negative reviews they received (only one, which was due to the guest's health problems) - this was a very honest and direct approach and we really appreciated it. The tour starts at noon by pick up from Bike and Tours pension, from where it is about 2 hour car ride to the Bukit Piton rainforest reserve. Already the car ride was very interesting, Mr. Teo, the Upon entering the reserve, we changed the car - our things were taken to the camp and we got on a jeep for safari. There were 4 of us guests - and 5 staff - driver, 2 spotters, and an english-speaking guide >> this shows the level of service you get - it is really and off-the beaten path, not touristy place. Moreover, there was more staff at the camp, taking care of our meals and of course. Dr. Teo, who is an amazing and knowledgeable person about the nature of the Bukit Piton reserve and the heart of the project. We did our firts safari, which took about 3 - 3,5 hours, during which we saw many animals (including orangutans), we even went into the jungle, where our spotters cut the path to get closer to the spotted mother and baby orangutans. It must be said that local guides are perfect spotters - they are able to see an animal even 100 metres away, from a moving car - hats off!! After that, we got to the camp - which is rather basic, as it originally served as an accomodation for forrest workers, who planted the trees in the Bukit Piton reserve. However, it feels very authentic - you are in the middle of the jungle! We unpacked, rested, and had dinner - there was a lot of fruit and vegetables, chicken and rice. After dinner, Mr. Teo told us a lot about the forest preservation - in Bukit Piton, in Sabah, in Borneo overall. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. Our night safari was postponed due to heavy rains and storm, so we went for an earlier and longer morning safari the next day. We again saw many animals, including Orangutans, went into the jungle and came close to them. After safari, we each planted two fruit trees and then changed into the car, where our bags were already loaded. Dr. Teo took as for a local breakfast and then took us to Bike and Tours B&B and then even to the bus station .
